Abstract

In a competitive market, the use of Information Technologys tools has become indispensable for the success of the business and, as various authors pointed out, its strategic business alignment is important. This work searched to answer the following question: Is there strategic alignment among companys management and IT? For this purpose, the moment of IT solutions acquisition was mainly considered. Concepts of corporative governance, IT Governance, decision-making process and strategic alignment were analyzed in this study in order to comprehend the context where there is alignment perspective. The methodology used for this work included literatures analyses and multiple cases study, based on semi-structured interviews with managers of both areas. After the interviews, a separated case study of each company was conducted to promote, in the end, a data intersection. As its final result, the work points for inexistence of this alignment at the moment of IT acquisition. Keywords: Strategic alignment. Corporative governance. IT Governance. Decision-making process.
