Abstract

Social interaction is an important thing for students to do in everyday life. However, mentally retarded children experience obstacles in interacting with their environment. SLB Nur Rachman is a school where children with disabilities study in the same class. The social interaction ability of mentally retarded children is able to increase with the help of effective persuasive communication strategies from the teacher. The results of this study found that the teacher's persuasive communication strategy to mentally retarded children in improving social interaction skills was carried out in 3 stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. The first is the planning stage, so that persuasive communication can run according to the objectives, the planning of this communication strategy aims to set goals. media selection. The second is the implementation, the implementation of persuasive communication at SLB Nur Rachman delivering persuasive messages using the AIDDA communication stage model, where there are 5 stages, namely attention, interest, desire, decision, and action. The third is evaluation, at the evaluation stage of the persuasive communication strategy, it will be assessed and searched for whether there are social changes that occur during the persuasive process. In the implementation of communication, there are also supporting factors and inhibiting factors in the teacher's persuasive communication to children with intellectual disabilities.
