Abstract
Legal ties do not necessarily reflect genetic realities. Whereas courts may show reluctance to sever the ties of legal relatedness, biological bonds are often simply deemed to be non-existent or irrelevant and therefore unlikely to warrant meaningful protection even where they may have been unjustifiably interfered with. In a number of cases involving genetic ties, there appears to be some degree of reluctance on the part of jurists to interfere with the sanctity of private family life.
