Abstract
Acrolein has been trapped from thermal molecular beams with temperatures between 284 and 890 K into an argon matrix. The amount of s-cis acrolein was enriched from 5% to about 28%. An even higher percentage of s-cis acrolein was achieved by irradiation of the matrix with ultraviolet light. A standard enthalpy of conformer interconversion Δ H O (cis-trans) of 570 ± 60 cm −1 was determined.
