Abstract

The strangeness content of the nucleon 〈 s s〈 N or equivalently the scalar correlator 〈; s s(x) u u(0)〈 0 is relaated to the mixing properties of SU f(3) scalar mesons. The correlator is evaluated by two ways: (i) Phenomenological approach assuming the saturation by low lying scalars (σ, S ∗), and (ii) dynamical approach based on the effective lagrangian of QCD including a U A(1) anomaly term. The resulting of m s〈 ss 〈 N is about 10% of the required on to reproduce the emperical Σ πN term. The origin of the smallness is essentially due to the small flavour mixing in the scalar channel.
