Abstract
Strange Way of Life (2023), Pedro Almodóvar’s most recent English-language short film is the director’s first engagement with the Western. Based on the various interviews that the director has granted during the promotion of his film, the essay discusses the origins for the project and the script; the influence of the classic Western genre on the story and the film’s aesthetic choices; and the aspirations behind this queer, mid-life cowboy film.
