Abstract

The rate of strain-induced boundary migration (SIBM), which appears during small strains in carbon steel under the critical strain for dynamic recrystallization, was measured through in situ observation at high temperatures. The rate of SIBM measured is much higher than the rate of grain growth without strain. The in situ observation method confirms that SIBM can be initiated by strains as small as 0.015.
