Abstract

A non-enzymic method is described for isolation of DNA from both cultured and symbiotic Frankia. Application of a combination of restriction enzyme digestion and electrophoresis techniques to a polymorphic fragment of the 16s rDNA gene, amplified by PCR, permitted discrimination between different Frankia genomic groups. The technique can be applied to both cultured Frankia and to identify Frankia in nodules.
