Abstract

Single phase gamma TiAl alloys have been confirmed to show an anomalous flow stress maximum at temperatures 400--600 C. The dislocation mechanisms responsible for this variation of flow stress with temperature are still not clear, with several mechanisms being proposed. The present report discusses static strain aging experiments carried out on two-phase TiAl-based alloy and considers the relation of the strain aging observed to studies of activation volume and anomalous flow stress increases.
