Abstract

Ancient peoples and cultures understood the power of a story, that it organizes and provides a throughline for our many states of consciousness, linking dreams to waking, linking collective culture to the particular mind. Drawing from the work of researchers in the field of cognitive neuroscience, I consider the unconscious schemas or story lines that underlie all the ways we organize temporal human experience. Attending to these immaterial narrative forms facilitates and deepens access between states of consciousness, separate subjectivities, and times.
