Abstract

Emergence of new industries is conceptually and empirically problematic in terms of overcoming legitimacy barriers. We suggest experience that firms gain in field-relevant activity, and concentration of ties among firms, generates field-level capacity to storm barriers of cognitive and socio-political legitimacy, creating attention and favorability for new forms of activity.
