Abstract

The tenth in Kent State University Press's Literature and Medicine series, Stories of Illness and Healing is an anthology of writings—fiction and non-fiction—exploring female experiences of ill-health. The contributors, of which there are over fifty, describe encounters with hospitals and doctors, stricken loved ones, and invasive medical procedures. The tales take various forms: there are poems, a play, transcribed oral testimonies, short stories, and personal accounts. There are depictions of muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease, necrosis, and senile dementia.
