Abstract

The development of specialist arrhythmia nurse roles caring for patients who have an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) means nurses are increasingly expected to know more about the technical aspects of ICD therapy. This article explains how the intracardiac electrogram (IEGM) data stored in an ICD is used by the device to adjust patient therapy. It also explains how the information is used in follow-up, including how it can guide device reprogramming by the specialized cardiac physiologist.
