Abstract

Abstract Sweden has been active in developing a comprehensive program for the disposal of nuclear waste. The author describes the programme for radioactive waste management, which comprises: a sea-transportation system; a central repository for final disposal of low- and medium-level radioactive waste (SFR); a central facility for interim storage of spent fuel (CLAB); and a repository for final disposal of spent fuel and long-life waste. The research and development work in progress in an abandoned iron-ore mine (Stripa Project) is described.
