Abstract

From our systematic studies of the slowing down of 7Li, 11B, 12C, 14N and 16O ions in polymer films, Mylar (C 10H 8O 4), polycarbonate (C 16H 14O 3) and CR-39 nuclear track detector material (C 12H 18O 7), the stopping powers of solid hydrogen, carbon and oxygen have been extracted. The energies cover a range of 0.5–2.1 MeV/u. The validity of Bragg's additivity rule and the effects of the chemical state have been investigated. The elemental stopping power data have been compared to semiempirical model predictions. The model calculations show deviations from the experimental data, especially for 7Li ions.
