Abstract

This chapter begins with a group most unlike the black conservatives cultivated from the top down by Republican and conservative white elites-conservative black social movement activists. Chapter 4 focuses on the involvement of African Americans in the grassroots black anti-abortion movement. Prisock argues the key distinction of conservative African American social movement activists is their tendency to place themes such as racism and racial conspiracies more explicitly at the center of their discourse. It is also in the conservative social movement realm where there are significant differences in African American participation, such as the increased role of African American women in leadership positions.
