Abstract

Currently, handheld scanning technology is expanding. In 2021, Apple released updated iPad and iPhone models that included LiDAR. In addition to the iPad Pro 2021, the Stonex F6 is also used to scan heritage objects. In this study, an experiment will be conducted to compare the performance of the two tools when scanning graffiti-covered cave walls. This experiment is hoped to be the first step in discovering cave art using iPad or iPhone Pro that included LiDAR. Echo Mantis is the software that is utilized for the processing of the results of the Stonex scan. Data processing on the iPad Pro M1 uses the same application as data acquisition, namely the 3D Scanner App. The analysis of both datasets was performed using the Cloud Compare software and a density analysis based on the number of neighbors. The density point of Stonex F6 is 1707 points and iPad Pro M1 2021 is 27 points at a radius of 2 cm. According to the results of the study, Stonex F6 has a higher point density than the iPad Pro M1 2021, but the lack of light presents the greatest challenge to data acquisition using Stonex F6. In contrast, due to the good camera resolution of the iPad Pro M1 2021, its point cloud coloring is better compared to that of the Stonex F6.
