Abstract

Stomatophobia (STF) — fear of dental procedures — is an independent risk factor for dental morbidity. This syndrome affects from one to two-thirds of the population or more to varying degrees. The proble m is at the intersection of dentistry and psychology. As a rule, STF syndrome occurs in childhood. The article provides information about the criteria for the severity of STF, etiological factors, and modern approaches to the correction of the syndrome. STF for correction requires a comprehensive approach, including the interaction of dentists, parents, psychologists, and teachers.
