Abstract
I read with great interest the article by Blackwell et al.1 The authors conducted a prospective study to investigate the association between stoma formation and subsequent antidepressant medication use in patients with Crohn's disease. The adjusted hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) in the permanent stoma group was 1.71 (1.20–2.44). In addition, the adjusted hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) in the group who had a temporary stoma with late reversal after 12 months was 1.85 (1.15–2.96). In contrast, the adjusted hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) in the group with a temporary stoma reversed within 12 months was 0.99 (0.64–1.53).
