Abstract

Clinicians must be prepared to deal adequately with acute emergencies that occur in the office setting. A critical aspect of successful treatment and positive outcome is preparation. This article outlines the basic drugs that should be readily available to treat the most commonly occurring office emergencies. Emergency kits should be kept simple because a kit that is complicated and crowded with various agents may only lead to confusion and a poor outcome. Constant vigilance is necessary to ensure that all drugs are up-to-date and not expired. Daily checks of emergency equipment are essential. Emergencies can and do occur when least expected, so clinicians must be prepared.
