Abstract
A continuous time stochastic process with discrete states has been formulated to model nitrate concentration in a stream ecosystem. The model predicts the distribution, mean and variance of nitrate concentration over time at any point in the stream. Fitting the model to the data gave adequate description of the observed nitrate concentration over time.
