Abstract

Micro Stereo Lithography (MSL) is an additive rapid prototyping process for fabrication of three dimensional micro parts that requires slicing of 3D model into layers and generation of laser tool path for each of the layer. To generate laser scan path, existing general purpose CAD/CAM software is being used in microstereolithography (MSL) set up built in house to fabricate micro parts. CAD/CAM software are used as aids for generating NC tool path for machining in metal working industries. Rapid Prototyping require specialized CAD/CAM packages to generate laser tool path for macro sized components. Most of the existing rapid prototyping softwares utilize STL format files for slicing and generation of tool path. This paper describes about adapting the standard CAD/CAM package and utilizing its features for generating laser tool path for manufacture of 3D miniature parts using MSL. This approach has reduced the overall time required for product development.
