Abstract
Abstract The 15 species of stipoid grasses in New Zealand are described, their distribution is mapped, and for the naturalised species their earliest record in New Zealand is given. Five species are recorded for the first time. Nine species of Stipa are Australian in origin. Only Nassella trichotoma is a serious weed; Stipa neesiana is a localised troublesome weed of pastures.
