Abstract

This paper reports the mechanoluminescence (ML) stimuli by a uniaxial load on rectangular-shaped molded SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy phosphor mixed with epoxy resin. The Sr0.97Al2O4: Eu0.01, Dy0.02 phosphor has been prepared through a solid-state reaction technique in the reducing atmosphere created through activated charcoal. The XRD pattern of this phosphor confirms its monoclinic structure. When a load is applied on the rectangular-shaped (RS) molded ML sample, the stimuli ML intensity initially increases with time, attains a peak value, and then decreases with time. It has also been found that the peak ML intensity of the phosphor is linearly proportional to the increasing applied loads. A minute change in tm of the phosphor sample with increasing loads has been recorded. The ML intensity increases with the thickness of the RS molded phosphor samples. The peak of photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the prepared phosphor excited with 345nm wavelength of light is found at 518 nm.
