Abstract

The theory of stationary stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) by polaritons in a confocal resonator at the Stokes frequency is reported in assumption that the pump and polariton waves are travelling. The condition of strong absorption in polariton region is realized. The main attention is paid to pumping threshold calculation and the real formula for the threshold is found. Neglecting diffraction divergence of the pumping wave, the energy flow of the Stokes wave from the resonator and the law of decrease in the pump energy flow in a non-linear crystal are determined. With a two- or three-fold excess of the threshold the pump energy is shown practically to transform completely into the Stokes energy. The quantitative comparison with the case of a plane resonator shows a much lower threshold in the confocal resonator, which is its main advantage.
