Abstract

Certain l- and d-amino acids, amino compounds, antibiotics, and polyamines increased production of total alkaline phosphatase by Aeromonas liquefaciens. The maximum production increased 6.2-fold on addition of 2.0% glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride (GEE) as compared with the production of a control culture. The addition of glycine, d-tryptophan, and dl-α-amino -n- butyric acid gave high released/total rations of enzyme production. On addition of inorganic phosphate to the media containing glycine, l-glutamic acid, and GEE, the enzyme production was repressed appreciably. The suitable carbon sources glycerol and glucose were usually required for the enzyme production even in the presence of glycine, l-glutamic acid, and GEE. The optimum pH was 10.5–11.2. The enzyme acted on various monophosphates, but did not hydrolyze 3′,5′-cAMP or bis ( p-nitrophenyl) phosphate.
