Abstract
1. 1. A single intravenous injection of MSM strongly inhibited glutamine formation in the chicken, and subsequently reduced uric acid synthesis. 2. 2. Such ability to synthesize uric acid was significantly increased by the infusion of ammonia, and was greatly enhanced by the infusion of glutamine. 3. 3. These facts indicate that the tissue concentration of glutamine plays an important role in controlling the rate of uric acid synthesis in the chicken, and also that ammonia stimulates uric acid production by a pathway which is apparently independent of glutamine synthesis.
