Abstract

The activity of serum lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase was increased on administration of phenobarbital to the rat. This effect was dependent on dose and elapsed time after administration of the drug. Phenobarbital did not stimulate lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase activity when added to serum from normal animals in vitro. Presumably, phenobarbital increased serum lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase activity by induction of the microsomal enzyme and subsequent secretion by the liver.
