Abstract

Acidic ribosomal proteins from Escherichia coli ribosomes stimulate in vitro RNA synthesis on T4 phage DNA by purified RNA polymerase. When RNA synthesis is stimulated by the acidic ribosomal proteins there is also a concomitant stimulation of γ-[ 32P]ATP incorporation into RNA. The formation of rifampicin-insensitive transcriptional initiation complex is also stimulated by acidic ribosomal proteins. Stimulation of RNA synthesis by acidic ribosomal proteins, therefore, involves more frequent initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase.
