Abstract

ABSTRACT A double-isotopic modification of the McKenzie assay has been devised. The serum of certain rabbits immunized with human thyroid microsomes caused true thyroid iodine release in the test mice, but also induced a marked shift of labeled T4 from tissues into plasma. This accounted for some of the apparent “thyroid stimulation” seen in the standard McKenzie assay of such sera. In the case of many thyroid-immunized sera of lower activity, the double-isotopic method revealed that thyroid stimulation was nonexistent.
