Abstract

At the end of mitosis and at the start of a new cell cycle the formation of new nucleoli takes place. This process depends on reinitiation of transcription. 0.5 mM adenosine stimulates the nucleologenesis rate in Allium cepa L. root meristems. A higher rate of decondensation of the mitotic chromosome is also detected with this treatment. This increased decondensation together with a faster nucleologenesis is probably related to the enhancement of the ATP level reported under these conditions.
