Abstract
It is currently believed that, in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, the pancreatic islet B-cell suffers from a kind of blindness to D-glucose. The secretory response of the B-cell to the hexose indeed appears to be more severely affected than that evoked by other nutrient or non-nutrient secretagogues.
