Abstract

After temporary turgor reduction, an increase of elongation rate has been repeatedly observed (stored growth). We could establish that the appearance of stored growth depends on the elongation rate before turgor reduction. At small elongation rates before turgor reduction, an overcompensation of the growth lost during turgor reduction is observed. The level of this overcompensation depends on the duration of turgor reduction. The results of p H analysis in the medium indicate a following treatment with mannitol H + secretion by coleoptile segments.
