Abstract

We present an analysis of the transient buildup of light in a transverse Brillouin resonator. This predicts a reduction in the oscillation threshold for angles close to 90°. This threshold reduction is observed in an experiment that uses a frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with n-hexane as the Brillouin medium. Self-pumped four-wave mixing is found to take place in the transverse resonator.
