Abstract
A theoretical investigation is made of the influence of linear amplification as a result of stimulated Brillouin scattering in a multimode fiber waveguide. Calculations are made of the threshold of such scattering and of the efficiency of conversion of a pump wave into a Stokes wave under steady-state and transient conditions. The theoretical results are shown to agree well with experimental results obtained under small-gain conditions.
