Abstract

STIMULANTS of cell division have been detected in a number of plant tissues, but little progress has been made in identifying the active substances involved1. Work on tobacco pith tissue culture2 has recently shown that apple fruitlets collected while undergoing cell division contain particularly active stimulants of cell division. We have confirmed this, obtained further information about these stimulants and found that fruitlets of other species are also rich sources of factors stimulating cell division. Some properties of the factors in plum fruitlets have been determined.
