Abstract

In this article I explore how the interplay between five elastic building components can take shape in the development of a musical score. With concepts derived from Magnar Åm’s (2004) article “Ikkjetid, ikkjetyngd”, I consider how time, space, weight, contrast and atmosphere come into play through creative work involving both writing and notations. Another part of the starting point for this exploration is the text Stilla og ropet written by Kaisa Aglen (2017). The musical score forms the foundation for opening up spaces of possibilities, for interpretation and performance. In the analysis of the artistic process I look closer at three different modes of exploration through reflection-in-action in the creative work: aesthetic, artistic and structural (Viig, 2020a). Finally, I also reflect on how we can understand this musical score as a form of expression situated in a cultural and sociohistorical context.
