Abstract

“Feminist activist theatre worker” was an identity that I was more comfortable with as a moniker in the eighties and nineties. Yet, I still attempt to live as a person who seeks justice, who is engaged in transformative learning as an educator, who still will challenge the power structures. During my many years running theatre companies, first Nightwood Theatre (1979-1985) and then Company of Sirens (1985 until recently), and as a working Board member of the Theatre Centre (1979-1994), my interest was in “creating spaces” – both in the literal sense and in the sense of context – where meaningful theatre would flourish, where social change was possible.
