Abstract

This article is a contribution to the analysis of the phenomenon of violent extremism and, beyond that, of the terrorist violence that continues to gain ground in Africa. We have analysed this phenomenon in relation to ethnic stigmatization, based on the principle that these are part of the logic of denial, of the denial of recognition suffered by certain communities. The consequence of such contempt is the withdrawal of identity, the most likely horizon of which is the cultivation or development of violent extremism. The challenge of this article is therefore to think of solutions, at the same time, to ethnic stigmatization and violent extremism from a reading of the principles of preventive diplomacy in the light of theories of recognition.
