Abstract

Stethorus punctillum Weise, a small black ladybird beetle native to Europe, Asia, and Japan (Kapur 1948), was first reported from North America by Brown (1950). He noted that in collections it was often confused with the native species S. punctum LeConte from which punctillum is separable only by characters of the male genitalia (Colburn and Asquith 1971). The known North American distribution now includes Ontario and British Columbia in Canada and Maine and Massachusetts (Putman 1955), and Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in the United States.
