Abstract

A new steroid, 3β,5α-dihydroxy-10α-methyl-6β-acetoxy-ergosta-7,22-diene (1), and ten known steroids (2–11), were isolated from the cultures of Eurotium rubrum, an endophytic fungus isolated from the marine green alga Codium fragile. Structures of these compounds were unambiguously established by spectroscopic techniques and by comparison with literature values. These steroids exhibited low activity to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and no activity against plant pathogenic fungi Colletotrichum lagenarium and Fusarium oxysporium.
