Abstract

Two new compounds were isolated from two Far-Eastern starfish species, Henricia sanguinolenta and H. leviuscula leviuscula, collected in the Sea of Okhotsk, viz., the glycoside sanguinoside C, (20R,22E,24R,25S)-3-O-(2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-β-xylopyranosyl)-24-methyl-5α-cholest-22-ene-3β,4β,6β,8β,15α,26-hexol, and a steroidal ketone, (20R,24S)-3β,6β,24-tri-hydroxy-5α-cholestan-15-one. They exhibit moderate cytostatic activity with respect to the eggs of sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius.
