Abstract

Four types of steroid receptors were assayed in 1715 tumors of various localization and in 101 normal tissue samples from the mammary gland, uterus, and endometrium; tissuespecific distribution of steroid receptors was demonstrated. Expression of steroid hormones (especially estrogen receptors) is enhanced in proliferating compared with resting tissues and in hormone-sensitive tumors compared with adjacent normal tissue. It is assumed that hormone sensitivity of the tumor reflects hormone sensitivity of parental organ.
