Abstract
When intact adrenals from adult male albino mice (CF 1 ) are incubated in Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate glucose solution, corticosterone and two polar lipid fractions are recovered from the medium. One of these has the properties of aldosterone. The other, more polar, fraction includes material with the mobility of 18-hydroxycorticosterone, as well as reducing lipids, but no evidence for the formation of 17-hydroxylated steroids was obtained. The adrenals, further, did not produce detectable amounts of 18-hydroxy-11-deoxycorticosterone, a major secretory product of the rat adrenal.
