Abstract

Dioscorea nipponica (Dioscoreaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that is used to treat cardiovascular diseases [1]. It has also been used as a food supplement to relieve the symptoms of asthma and rheumatism [2]. Phytochemical studies of the rhizomes of D. nipponica resulted in the isolation of steroidal glycosides, which were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods.
