Abstract

Data were obtained on the amounts of stereotypies and automanipulates emitted by 9 autistic children who were exposed to six trials graded in complexity in an observational experiment. As expected, automanipulates decreased with increasing complexity. On the other hand, the results did not support the expected increases in stereotypies. A suggestion for future research is offered.
