Stereotypes of the Traits between Men and Women in Indonesia by Movie the Mars Met Venus Through Character Characterization

Abstract

This research is based on the uniqueness of a film produced in Indonesia entitled Mars Met Venus. The film which contains two male and female figures dating, released two films with two different perspectives, namely: Mars Met Venus (Part Girl) and which was later released a month later was the Mars Met Venus (Part Boy). The first film had the main character of a woman who in the film became the main character and became the point of view in the film. In the second film, the main character changes to the man who becomes the girlfriend of the main character in the first film. This second film still brings the same story and plot. However, this man's point of view was brought by the man so that the second film revealed stories that were not revealed from the male side. The most obvious thing shown by these two films is the difference in stereotypical traits between women in the first film and men in the second film. This difference in character is shown by the characterization of each male and female character who is adapted to the stereotypes of the people in Indonesia. This research was conducted to present the stereotypes between sexes in Indonesia through the two films. Using descriptive research methods and with the results that this film does use characterizations using stereotypical reflections of the people in Indonesia.
