Abstract

α-(N,N-Dialkylaminomethyl)acrylates bearing various amino groups at the α-position of acrylate, such as ethyl α-(1-pyrrolidinylmethyl)acrylate, ethyl α-(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)acrylate, ethyl α-(N-benzyl-N-methylaminomethyl)-acrylate, and ethyl α-[((S)-2-methoxymethyl-I-pyrrolidinyl)methyl]acrylate, were synthesized, and stereospecific polymerization with anionic initiators was investigated. Highly isotactic polymers were obtained using Grignard reagent-( - )-sparteine complex as well as lithium amide as initiators. Isotactic specific anionic polymerization took place regardless of the polarity of solvents.
