Abstract
The stereoselective synthesis of isovaline (2-amino-2-methylbutyric acid) and the stereochemical pathway via the key intermediate 2 is described. For use in peptide synthesis, this α,α-dialkyl amino acid is incorporated into N-protected dipeptide derivatives in high yields. Special emphasis was put on the upscaling-problem.
