Abstract

Abstract A new, exact method of obtaining selective pulses in NMR is described. By drawing on an analogy with the behavior of seismic waves in geophysics, a simple, flexible, and fast algorithm is obtained. The method is used to determine novel selective pulses, including a doubly selective pulse and a refocusing pulse, the latter pulse being obtained with the help of symmetry arguments. The doubly selective pulse is shown experimentally to have a response close to the theoretical response. It is also shown to be effective as a double solvent-suppression pulse.
